Artificial insemination…it’s not like you’re not getting inseminated
Chrissy’s ovulation was a lot less dramatic this month. Tuesday and Thursday we had morning monitoring check ups, then on Thursday afternoon, we learned that the procedure was planned for Friday morning. Working on nature’s schedule, we can’t be choosy about the doctor on duty so we were especially excited this time around to find out that our doctor would personally be performing the procedure.
I’m not a superstitious person but when Chrissy asked me to wear her lucky shamrock necklace, I was happy to oblige. With our good luck charm in tow, we headed to the doctor’s office for an early morning IUI.
Even though the appointment was early, the office was very busy. There must be a lot of women trying to make babies this summer. Eventually we were taken back, we confirmed the donor sample was ours and after a little more waiting, the doctor came in to see us. Our doctor is always very friendly. She makes conversation, asks questions and listens. She was still very efficient, though, and the IUI was over quickly.
Chrissy experienced a lot of pain and discomfort during and after the procedure. I felt bad for her when I saw her wincing and encouraged her to take it easy when I dropped her off at home afterward. I’ll really feel bad, though, when she finally is pregnant and experiencing all sorts of pain and discomfort (especially labor!)
Later that evening, we celebrated our 4th IUI by going to Helium Comedy Club to see 3 awesome female comedians: Stamie Karakasidis, Kate Micucci (fellow Keystone College Alum!) and Tig Notaro. We got there pretty early and had reservations, so of course they sat us at a table right down in front of the stage. When you sit in the front at a comedy show, you’re asking for it. Tig Notaro had a few bits where she went back and forth with the audience and she picked on me quite a bit which Chrissy found hilarious. There was also a funny bit in her set about artificial insemination.

After the comedy show, we got some frozen yogurt and headed home. A nice start to our 4th 2 week wait…
